Sue Edwards (Churchwarden)
I have lived in the Parish of Wexham since my marriage to Brian in 1968.
We have 3 sons, and when my first child, Richard, was born, I went along
to the Toddler Group at the church hall. The welcome I received from
Jean Smith (Rev’d John Smith’s wife), made a huge difference to me as
a new and nervous mother, who needed support and friendship. I joined
the baby-sitting circle and made friends with other mothers, who remain
friends today. Through this we were introduced to all that was going on
around Wexham and George Green.
Although there was no Sunday School for the boys to attend, they came
with me to the 10 o’clock services and were welcomed. They weren’t keen
on being in the choir, but they did act as Servers.
Over the years I have been Secretary of the Parochial Church Council,
then a member of the Deanery Synod and lastly a Churchwarden.
Having served the maximum term of 6 years, I took a break during June
2021 and May 2022, and am now happy to be taking on the responsibility
and working with Vicky Clayton as Churchwarden for another year.
Both Brian and I belong to Wexham Bowls Club, which takes up a great
deal of our time in the summer months. Our sons and their partners live
within 14 miles of us, so we love to keep in touch with them and our 4
grandsons.
St Mary’s, Wexham, is about friendship and fellowship and being part of
a much larger family of Christians, so that wherever I go, whether a small
gathering or a Cathedral, I feel welcome, just as I did the first time I came
to the Toddler Group with my baby son.
